Lalique gets its name from the renowned French Nouveau artist, and company founder Rene Lalique. Born in 1860 Rene began designing fine jewelry at the age of 21. He broke the mold of traditional jewelry making by incorporating diverse materials with nature inspired designs.

After a decade of working for some of the largest French jewelry brands, Rene was ready to move into glass working. Taking his cue from the clean geometry of the Art Deco movement, Rene’s artistic skills made him a masterful glass designer. While the first 50 years of Lalique were an expression of Rene Lalique’s masterful art, he passed in 1945 and his son Marc took over the company.

Marc expanded the company’s crystal lines and Rene’s granddaughter Marie-Claude took over the company in 1977. Her time as CEO saw the company return to Rene’s first love, jewelry design and an expansion of Lalique’s early success in the perfume industry. In 2008 Lalique was purchased by the Art & Finance group. Since 2008 Lalique has continued its existing product lines while expanding into truly unique experiences.

Beyond their unique experiences, Lalique has masterfully maintained their historic product lines while expanding into diverse new products. As early as 1910, Lalique was well known in the perfume industry. They took a break from the product but reintroduced their bottles and scents under the leadership of Marie-Claude. Today their perfume line includes scents for men, women, and even candles.

You can see their current products here. Their vases and jewelry continue to be bestsellers much as they were when Rene ran the company. Beyond their historic product lines, Lalique has expanded into furniture, lighting, and even bedding. While their products are diverse, their commitment to quality and exquisite design across all their products remains.

In writing about Rene Lalique, the stunning crystal and stemware of Lalique and their unique experiences I've come to love the intricate designs innovative product lines. I've also added a new item to my bucket list: Visit France and stay at a Lalique hotel. I hope you've become as entralled with Lalique's crystal and figurines as I have. Maybe one day I'll bump into you at the Lalique museum :)
